The ‘Ending Violence Against Women and Girls’ workshops aim to make a difference to women in society
The Zachary Geddis Trust will take on the challenge of tackling violence against women and girls this summer with three free community workshops.
The ‘Ending Violence Against Women and Girls’ workshops will be held at the charity’s headquarters in Coleraine on July 21, August 14 and August 21 from 10am to 12noon.
Yasmin Geddis, CEO of the Zachary Geddis Trust urged representatives of community groups and community minded volunteers to get involved.
“Our ‘Ending Violence Against Women and Girls’ workshops aim to make a difference to women in our society, whether you are a community member, a statutory body or a volunteer," she said.
“The Zachary Geddis Trust are inviting you to tackle this important social issue by participating in our training programme, specifically designed to increase knowledge and develop skills to help end violence against women and girls.
“Each workshop is subject specific and will address a different theme, all of which are vital in battling this difficult issue.
“We are working in collaboration with NEXUS NI to deliver these free training workshops over the summer, addressing important themes on gender equality and giving individuals the practical tools to address instances of abuse, harassment or assault.”
On July 21, the workshop will focus on Addressing Gender Norms and Gender Equality Training.
This training will help participants to recognise and challenge societal expectations about gender roles and the skills to foster inclusive environments.
It will also equip individuals with the knowledge and skills to promote equality in society.
The second workshop, taking place on August 14 will address Bystander Awareness, aiming to give confidence to safely intervene as an active bystander if you witness abuse, assault, or harassment in public, at work, or in your home life.
The final workshop, which will be held on August 21, places attention on Handling Disclosures and is CPD Accredited.
This workshop will increase confidence in responding to disclosures of abuse and explore the dynamics and impact of grooming and coercive control.
