Full upgrade of A6 needed not 'patchwork repairs': Ó hOisín

Sinn Féin’s Cathal Ó hOisín has welcomed the resurfacing of a section of the Glenshane Pass but said the upgrade of the A6 remained "a priority."

The East Derry MLA was speaking after Transport Minister Danny Kennedy announced a £350,000 resurfacing scheme on a two kilometre of the A6 (main Derry to Belfast road) in the vicinity of Eden Quarry (pictured above) would begin on Monday next, 23 March.

Mr Ó hOisín said while he welcomed the resurfacing work, he called on Mr Kennedy  to stop his “patchwork approach” to the main arterial route and begin the upgrade of this road to dual carriageway status which would “benefit the entire North West region.”
