A 52-year-old man who re-offended three days after he was given a suspended was today jailed for nine months.

Patrick Farren, of Stoneburn Place in the Tullyally area, pleaded guilty to behaving in a disorderly manner in Tullyally yesterday.

Derry Magistrates Court heard police were tasked to the area after reports a man was causing a nuisance.

They found Farren in a hairdresser’s salon, where he was asking staff to dance with him.

The court was told Farren had previously served prison sentences in both February and March and had been given a three month suspended sentence on Monday.

Defence solicitor, Tom McClafferty, said his client had a “severe alcohol problem.”

“He told me he doesn’t remember any of this,” said Mr McClafferty told the court.

Judge Austin Kennedy told Farren: “You have an appalling record.

“I have no alternative other than to impose immediate custody.”
