Limavady named best place to Work From Home in NI

Independent research released today has revealed the top places to live as a remote worker in the North with Limavady taking the number one spot
Limavady has been named as Northern Ireland’s best location to ‘work from home’ by a leading rural broadband provider.
The north-west town ranked first in the Remote Working Index, an independent study by Fibrus to celebrate the impact of enhanced digital connectivity across the Province and to recognise the evolving nature of working life in Northern Ireland.
The Index draws on a robust set of measures including broadband speed, average house prices, access to shared and flexible workspaces, proximity to green spaces, and transport links to cities to establish a Top 10 ranking.
Limavady’s top ranking emerges as a result of its favourable home prices, with prices for a 3-bed house in the town averaging £166,332, compared to an average of £208,798 across Northern Ireland. The town was also recognised for its strong transport links between Derry City and Belfast as well as its 95% ultra-fast broadband availability.
Local man Thomas Adeleaux is one example of how improved connectivity continues to transform life in the North West. Now working remotely between Magilligan and London, Thomas and his partner moved back to Limavady in search of a home that could be close to family, beaches and green spaces without having to sacrifice career opportunities. With reliable, Full fibre broadband now widely available, Limavady offered the perfect balance, closing the gap that once limited opportunities outside major cities.
Thomas Adeleaux, Limavady resident and remote worker said: “Remote working has really had a positive impact on Limavady. It's allowed people like me to work from home, spend at fitness classes, restaurants and shops during the working week and it’s also enabled young families to lay roots here – a new generation of users of local nurseries, libraries, schools and clubs.”
Linda McMillan, Chief People Officer of Fibrus Group said: “Reliable, high‑speed broadband is the foundation of successful remote working, yet for too long rural communities were overlooked when it came to digital connectivity. Fibrus was founded to change that, by giving rural areas equal access to the same opportunities as cities and the results of this index show just how far Northern Ireland has come.
“Thanks to Project Stratum, Northern Ireland now boasts full fibre coverage of 95%, 9% ahead of the UK average, meaning a lot of our towns are now competing on a level playing field for broadband speed.
“Remote working has given people the freedom to live and work where they choose, without sacrificing career opportunities. It boosts local economies and supports thriving rural communities, which is something Fibrus continues to be a real champion of as we roll out full fibre broadband across Northern Ireland and witness first-hand the difference connectivity is having on local families and businesses.”
