Local police have issued a warning that '999' is not the correct number to ring to report instances of dog fouling.

Instead concerned members of the public should report dog fouling to their local council.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "While we appreciate dog fouling is a nuisance and is associated with various diseases, '999' is not the right number to ring.

"Please report these irresponsible dog owners to your local council who can issue a fine of £80.

"Responsible dog owners myself included will be only to happy for these reports to be made as I have often returned to the car/house with the proverbial on the sole of my shoes."
