Police also discovered cannabis on Conor Haughey

A man has been jailed at Derry Magistrates Court today for incidents in Altnagelvin Hospital and possessing drugs.

Connor Haughey (33) of no fixed abode was charged with the offences that took place between September 17 and 18 last year.

Police were initially called to an incident in Altagelvin Hospital when Haughey was said to be acting in a disorderly manner. Police also believed that he had drugs on him.

Haughey was then taken into custody before being brought back to the hospital, where he told police he had to go to the bathroom.

Refusing to enter, Haughey called the police 'pervs' and proceeded to urinate in the back of the police van.

He then kicked a police officer in the face and headbutted another. Police then discovered cannabis on his person.

A defence solicitor told the court that the past four and a half months in custody have been a 'very sobering experience' for Haughey, adding that he was 'fed up' of being in and out of custody.

He was sentenced to five months in prison.
