Man arrested after Derry pensioner knocked down and killed

A 43 year old man was arrested and questioned in connection with last night’s fatal accident in Derry in which a 70-year-old man was killed.

The incident occurred at around 7.00pm on the country-bound lane of the Culmore Road close to Troy Park.

Police said the arrested man has been released pending further enquiries.

Culmore Road, which had been closed overnight from Buncrana Road and Greenhaw Road to allow police to carry out a detailed examination of the scene (pictured), was reopened to traffic earlier this morning

Police have appealed to anyone who witnessed the accident to contact them on the 101 non emergency telephone number.
