A man has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrates Court charged with breaching his bail conditions by accessing social media.

Berthold Holger (49) of Abercorn Road in Derry, was charged with breaching his bail after previously being told by court he was not to access any form of social media after being charged with harassment of his former partner.

The court heard that Holger had messaged his former partner's friend via Facebook and while not explicitly naming her, heavily implied he was talking about his former partner.

Defence Barrister Sinead Rogan applied for bail as there were a 'vast array' of messages that had to be translated from Golfer's native German, adding that it was a fairly minor breach.

Deputy District Judge Chris Holmes said that he 'doesn't consider the breach minor', saying that staying off social media was not hard, and denied bail.

The defendant will appear again on January 11.
