Man charged with series of offences including assaulting police returned for trial

A man has been returned for trial to Derry Crown Court on 13 charges including assaulting police following a Preliminary Enquiry at Derry Magistrates’ Court.
Jamie Curran (31) of Duncreggan Road in Derry was charged with, on August 14 last year, assaulting police and sending threatening messages.
He was also charged with an assault that was said to have occurred on August 3 last year and, between August 13 and 14 last year, three counts of non-fatal strangulation, assault, making threats to kill and criminal damage of clothes, all of which involve the same alleged injured party.
Between the same dates, he was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon, namely a blade.
It was accepted that there was a case to answer and there were no contrary submissions.
Curran chose not to submit any statements and not to call any witnesses.
He was returned for trial in custody to Derry Crown Court on October 12.
