Man pulled from car and beaten in Derry

Police in Derry are appealing for information about an assault on a man in the Racecourse Road area of the city in which a man sustained facial injuries after he was pulled from a car and beaten.

The incident occurred at around 2.30pm when the man was sitting a car parked close to Pennyburn Credit Union office on Greenhaw Road. Constable McAllister, the investigating officer, said driver’s side door was flung open by a man who began punching the car’s occupant.

Const McAllister added: “He was then pulled from the car and the assailant began kicking and jumping on him. “At this stage it is believed the victim has a broken cheekbone. He has severe swelling on the right side of his face and a graze to the back of his head.”

Const McAllister said information could be given on the police non-emergency number, 101, or by calling the Crimestoppers Charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
