Councillor Grace Uí Niallais celebrates the vital economic impact of international tourism as visitors explore local heritage

The Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Councillor Grace Uí Niallais, welcomed a group of American visitors to the Guildhall this week during their tour of the city and district.

The visitors are travelling with Boston-based tour operator Cara Group Travel, which has a long-standing relationship with the North West, bringing American visitors to the island of Ireland and regularly including Derry as part of its itineraries.

This summer, Cara Group Travel has a particularly strong presence in the district, with three football teams taking part in the Foyle Cup alongside a music group and more than 80 travelling supporters.

Welcoming the group, Mayor Uí Niallais said she was delighted to receive the visitors and highlighted the importance of international tourism to the local economy.

"It is always a pleasure to welcome visitors from the United States to our city. We are proud of the warm welcome we offer and the opportunity to share our unique history, culture and hospitality. We hope everyone enjoys their time in Derry and Strabane and leaves with many lasting memories."
