McGinty and Carlin's 'Derry anthem' moves Carly Simon into releasing the local production
A song that has become an anthem for Derry, sung by two of the city’s brightest young stars, was released worldwide yesterday by the record company of a global star.
‘Let The River Run’, was performed by talented young Derry stars, Damien McGinty of ‘Glee’ fame and Mairead Carlin of Celtic Women at the opening concert of the City of Culture year, Sons and Daughters, in January.
The song, originally sung by American singer-songwriter, Carly Simon, secured her a place in the history books as the first artist in history to win a Grammy Award, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe Award for a song both written and performed entirely by a single artist.
Ms Simon was so moved by the Derry rendition of the song that yesterday, on New Year’s Day, her record company, Iris Records, released the version produced by Derry man, Frank Gallagher, in a joint venture between Walled City Records and Iris.
The accompanying music video will feature highlights of the City of Culture year including Lumiere, Radio One’s Big Weekend, the Fleadh, the Walled City Tattoo, The Return of Colmcille and Other Voices.
The single is now available to download on iTunes.
