A message of support and solidarity has been given to the family of Derry Stardust victim, Susan Morgan.

The Stardust nightclub fire on Valentine’s Day 1981 resulted in 214 injuries and claimed 48 lives including Derry woman Susan Morgan who was 19.

Ms Morgan had moved to Dublin not long before the fire, with a group of friends.

Earlier this month an inquest into the tragedy recorded a verdict of unlawful killing.

Taoiseach Simon Harris issued a state apology, stating the families who lost loved ones had been "failed by the state".

Sinn Féin councillor Sandra Duffy commended survivors and the families of victims for their “remarkable resilience and resolve” through 43 long years seeking justice for their loved ones.

Cllr Duffy said: “They have campaigned tirelessly for truth and justice for over 40 years - the determination they’ve shown has been nothing short of inspirational.

“Last week’s verdict confirmed what survivors and victims’ families have always known, and they had to fight until 2019 to get a second inquest, and had to continue to fight the State until that inquest started.

“For this remarkable resilience and resolve, we salute them. The 48 young lives taken in the Stardust tragedy will be forever missed, but now each family has the comfort of knowing the truth.

“This apology has taken the victims out of the darkness and into the sunshine and the light.”
