Heavy snowfall early this morning has led to treacherous conditions on roads right across County Derry. Gritters have been working throughout the morning to clear snow on main roads particularly the Glenshane Pass (pictured). The Glenshane remains passable with care this morning however the stretch of road between Dungiven and Maghera is particularly hazardous with heavy snowfall restricting visibility. A yellow warning for snow issued by The Met Office remains in place throughout the day and into tomorrow (Friday). Snow showers are expected throughout the day with wind gusts of up to 55mph leading to temporary blizzard conditions.

Cold, northerly winds will bring frequent snow showers throughout Friday. A further 2-5 cm of snow is possible, with an additional 10 cm across some higher ground. “There is the potential for disruption to transport networks with longer journey times. Icy stretches on untreated roads and pavements are also possible,” said the Met Office.
