Mid Ulster men before Scottish court over alleged drug offences

Two men from Mid Ulster, who were allegedly caught with a quantity of suspected heroin at a ferry terminal, have been remanded in custody in Scotland.
The defendants, 41 year-old Nigel Martin Stewart from Magherafelt and Christopher Patrick Reid (30) from Cookstown appeared before Stranraer Sherriff (pictured) Court in Scotland yesterday morning (Monday) charged with being concerned in the supply of a controlled drug.
It is understood that the two men were stopped at the ferry terminal at Cairnryan on Thursday. The men were arrested by Police Scotland officers after a quantity of suspected heroin was recovered. No plea was entered by either defendant during the short hearing.
Both Stewart and Reid were remanded in custody and are expected to appear back before Stranraer Sherriff Court on Tuesday, July 14.
Officers from the PSNI’s Reactive and Organised Crime Branch have been liaising with Police Scotland since the arrests were made and it is understood that searches have been carried out in the Cookstown and Magherafelt areas.
