New campaign launched to protect Derry's elderly from scams
A new campaign has been launched to protect Derry’s elderly from scam and financial abuse.
The Derry Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) has produced a DVD entitled “A Costly Subject,” on “elder financial abuse.”
The project had grown out of a partnership between Creggan-based Old Library Trust (OLT) and the Workers’ Educational Association which is no longer in service.
OLT took on responsibility for the delivery of the project, which consists of a DVD resource and paper materials, to help highlight some of the scams and financial abuse that are commonly found in today’s society.
The resource looks at several types of scam and financial abuse such as investment scam, competition or mass market scam, credit card scam and family financial abuse.
The project aims to raise awareness of the scams and forms of financial abuse currently faced by many of our older generation.
