Paddy McCourt signs for Glenavon

Paddy McCourt has signed for Irish League Premiership club Glenavon.

The Mourneview Park club confirmed tonight that the former Derry City winger had signed a one year deal.

McCourt, who trained with his new team mates earlier this evening, is expected to be included in the Lurgan Blues' squad for their pre-season friendly against Kilbarrack Unitd in north Dublin this Saturday.

Derry City manager Kenny Shiels opted out of bringing the talented Northern Ireland international back to Brandywell, stating he was placing his faith in the youth devlopment system he has implemented at the club.

McCourt (32) been free agent after leaving Luton Town earlier this summer and had been linked with a return to the Candy Stripes with whom he established himself a firm favourite with the fans before moving to Glasgow Celtic in 2008.

He has also had spells with Barnsley, Brighton & Hove Albion and Notts County.
