SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan has praised Derry soprano Margaret Keys who will sing at the ‘Harmony for Peace’ concert in New York’s Carnegie Hall next week – joining world renowned performers in a call for global peace, respect and understanding.

Mr Durkan said would be “great pride and a lot of joy” for the local singer (pictured) from people throughout Derry when she performs at next Mondahy’s concert.

Mr Durkan “Margaret is such a great ambassador for the city.

“From making her first appearance at the Derry Feis to performing at the world famous Carnegie Hall is such a great accomplishment – and once again well-deserved recognition of her special talent and warm spirit.

“It is also wonderful that gifted performers like Margaret are sharing their talents to promote peace, solidarity and tolerance.”

Margaret Keys also took to the stage in Philadelphia last year alongside singing celebrities Andrea Bocelli and Aretha Franklin for a special show for Pope Francis which was broadcast across the world.

Ms Keys is the daughter of former SDLP Derry City Councillor Bill Keys.
