Police in Derry arrest three people on suspicion of drink driving in four-hour period

Police to continue to conduct road safety operations

Police in Derry arrested three people on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol in breath in a four-hour period in the city last night, (Monday, May 20).

Two of those arrested remain in custody this morning, while the third person has been charged to appear before court next month.

Sergeant Montgomery said: "Our message is clear. Driving with drink or drugs drastically increases the chances of causing a collision. It only takes one drink. If you’re driving, don’t drink any alcohol at all.

"We will continue to conduct road safety operations, throughout Derry City & Strabane, and these proactive policing patrols will be at any time of day or night as we continue to target those who disregard driving laws.

"We all share the responsibility to keep ourselves and other road users safe. Remember the ‘Fatal Five’ and the steps you can take to avoid them. Don’t drink and drive, slow down, don’t get careless, wear your seat belt and stay off your phone."
