Police in Derry issue burglary warning to homeowners

Police are appealing anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area to contact them on 101
Police in Derry are reminding homeowners to be vigilant, after patrol officers spotted three suspicious males in the Trench Road area in the early hours of Saturday, August 1.
The three were masked and wearing dark clothing. When police stopped to speak with them, they made off via the rear of a house - however officers retrieved four potential weapons from the garden area of the property.
Police are appealing anyone who noticed anything suspicious in the area to contact them on 101, quoting reference 228 01/08/26.
A PSNI spokesperson said: “We would also ask local residents to check their CCTV or doorbell footage.Alternatively, you can submit a report online at http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/ You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at http://crimestoppers-uk.org/
“We would take this opportunity to remind our community that you can take some simple steps to protect the security of your home. Sometimes we tend to take it for granted that our homes are secure.
“A good many burglaries are committed by opportunistic criminals and open or unlocked doors and windows are used to gain quick and easy access to homes. Good home security, such as using window and door locks, is the best way to reduce your chances of being burgled.
