A victim of a sexual assault described her attacker as ‘a silly boy’, Derry Crown Court heard today.
Johnny Crumlish (19) of Glenabbey Crescent in Derry was sentenced for a sexual assault on a female that occurred when she was 14 and he was 16.
The court heard that on September 18, 2022 police were contacted and told of an incident when a young girl got into a car with some males including the defendant who asked her to go for ‘a joy ride’.
While in the car the defendant climbed into the back seat and ‘unwanted touching and kissing’ occurred.
The court heard that Crumlish touched the girl in ‘a non-consensual way’.
Judge Neil Rafferty KC said that the defendant had acknowledged that his victim would have been ‘fearful’ during the encounter and expressed his 'shame and remorse'.
Crumlish was given a 18 month probation order and a restraining order for a period of five years.
