Probation for Derry man who committed £35,000 fraud

A 31-year-old man who admitted £35,000 fraud charges involving Derry Credit Union and the Halifax Building Society was placed on probation at the city’s Crown Court this morning.

Keith Deehan, of Jacqueline Way, pleaded guilty to obtaining a money transfer by deception, fraud by false representation, and converting and acquiring criminal property.

The offences occurred between 22 August 2006 and  22 August 2012.

The court was told 17 further offences were “to be kept on the books.”

The heard heard Deehan claimed he was in full time employment to obtain the money, when he was not, and both institutions did no incur any losses as a result of the fraud.
