The Kilkenny operation aimed to target and disrupt the movement of criminals while also detecting road traffic offences.

Two people have been arrested following a series of high-visibility Garda checkpoints in Kilkenny earlier this week.

The checkpoints were carried out by Kilkenny's Roads Policing Unit (RPU), with assistance from the Armed Support Unit (ASU), at three locations in and around the city.

The operation aimed to target and disrupt the movement of criminals while also detecting road traffic offences.

One man was arrested after being found to be subject to a deportation order. He was immediately transported into custody.

A second driver was arrested after appearing to be under the influence of an intoxicant and subsequently failing a roadside oral fluid test.

Gardaí also detected a number of other road traffic offences during the operation.

An Audi Q3 was seized after it emerged that its NCT had expired more than a year ago and an unaccompanied learner driver was behind the wheel.
