A woman has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged with assault and making threats to kill after a dispute between children.

Elaine McGeehan (36) of Glenabbey Mews in Derry was charged with, on June 14 last year, assaulting a woman after an incident at Greenhaw primary school.

McGeehan got into an altercation at the gates of the school, acting in an abusive manor to another mother at the gates.

McGeehan then drove to the victim's home and began shouting abuse from her car, subsequently getting out and grabbing the victim from behind by the hair. McGeehan also threatened to come back and slit the victim's throat.

Defence Barrister Sinead Rogan said that the fight had started over both women's children, saying that McGeehan may have initially gone to the victim's home to sort it out.

She added that the McGeehan has since moved and that the children no longer go to the same school.

McGeehan received a nine month probation order and was ordered to pay a compensation order of £250.
