£300 fine for Derry man who caused criminal damage to items in his mother's house

Matthew Anderson (23) of no fixed abode admitted a charge of criminal damage to two cases on October 28
A man with 81 previous convictions has been fined at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with criminal damage to items in his mother's house.
Matthew Anderson (23) of no fixed abode admitted a charge of criminal damage to two cases on October 28.
The court was told that the defendant was not appearing in court as he was being uncooperative with police and refused to leave his cell.
A police officer told the court that at 8.00am on October 28 police were called to a report by the defendant's mother who said that Anderson appeared to be under the influence of 'a concoction of drugs' and was being aggressive.
He smashed a vase in the hall and another in the kitchen and threw food about the room.
The defendant could not be interviewed due to his behaviour.
The police officer said that the defendant had 14 previous convictions for criminal damage and his last conviction was in August.
Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that the defendant faced 'a revolving door' in that he would be charged, served some time in custody, be released and then the whole thing would start again.
Anderson was fined £300.
