olice launch an investigation after a suspicious man claims to be from a housing authority before fleeing empty-handed

Police in Strabane are reminding residents to be vigilant following a report of a suspicious caller to a home in the town on Friday, September 4, at around 1pm.

When challenged by the occupant, the man claimed to be from a housing authority and was there to carry out a repair. When asked for identification, the man declined and left the property in what was described as a pink-coloured vehicle. It was subsequently confirmed the man was not an employee of the housing authority.

As enquiries continue, police are sharing crime prevention advice, advising to never allow any unexpected cold callers into your home.

Always ask for official identification, even when the person sounds convincing that they represent a public service or business.

Trust your gut, that instinct that something isn't quite right, if you feel the person is acting suspiciously.

Police also advise displaying a 'No Cold Calling' sticker on the door or window at the front of your property.

If this does happen to you, call police on 101 or online via https://reporting.psni.police.uk/report/

In an emergency, always call 999.
