Race to take place in memory of well-known Derry athlete
The Jog in the Bog will celebrate its tenth anniversary later this month, with this year’s event to be held in honour of a popular Derry athlete in 2011.
Colm Quigley, a member of the North West Triathlon Club and a well-known figure in local athletic circles, passed away on March 20, 2011.
On Thursday, August 14, over runners from all over the northwest are expected to converge on the Bogside for the run, which is part of the annual Gasyard Wall Féile.
Over recent years, the Jog in the Bog has become an increasingly popular event in the local sporting calendar, drawing may of the top runners from city to compete in the 5k road race.
Speaking ahead of this year’s run, a spokesperson for the Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum, who are organising the event, urged everyone seeking to take part in the Jog in the Bog to register as soon as they could.
“In addition to the 5k race, we are also hosting a 1k fun run for children and a 3k family walk,” the spokesperson said.
“There will be entertainment for children held in the Gasyard such as balloon making, face painting and arts and crafts.”
The spokesperson added: “We have runners registered from all running clubs in the town and there has been a great response to pre-registration to date.”
The Jog in the Bog 5k race will begin at 7.30pm, with the kids’ fun run kicking off at 7pm, while the family walk is set to begin at 7.15pm.
You can pre-register for the event up to this Friday, August 8 by contacting the Bogside and Brandywell Health Forum on 02871365330, or by visiting their Facebook page.
