Repair work needed on Derry's 'Stitch in Time' public artwork: Cooper

Derry City and Strabane District Council has been called on to carry out upgrade work on the 'Stitch in Time' public artwork on top of the former Rosemount Factory building in the city.

The call for repair work comes from Sinn Fein Cllr Mickey Cooper who said he had been contacted by a number of residents about several of the lights on the neon sign being out and was there anything he could do to get them fixed.

The structure was put up during the city’s Year of Culture in 2013 in recognition of Derry's association with the shirt-making industry.

Cllr Cooper said: “The neon sign introduced during the City of Culture year was thankfully kept due to good work of former Minister Carál Ní Chuilín.

“It is now one of Derry’s iconic pieces of public artwork.”

He concluded: “I am calling on the council to carry out repair work on the sign as soon as possible.”
