Residents can sleep easy after street light repairs - Boyle

Residents in the Whitehouse Park area of Derry can “sleep easier in their beds” after Road Service engineers carried out much needed street light repairs, SDLP Cllr John Boyle has said.

Cllr Boyle said the problems with defective street lights and lack of finances for repairs had been well documented over the past few months and he was pleased esidents in the Whitehouse Park area could finally sleep easier in their beds after Transport NI engineers attended to an issue which he had reported before Christmas.

He added: “The problem had been a lot worse than a few broken bulbs and required repair to underground cables. Roads Minister Danny Kennedy had indicated some time back that there would be no money available to carry out this kind of repair work and as a result people throughout the city have literally been living in the dark.

"An entire cull de sac in Whitehouse Park was without street lights for nearly two months. It is encouraging to see that the utility company are now back on the streets and dealing with these long term issues. I am hopeful that this trend will continue, now that the Roads Minister, with the support of the SDLP, has more money in his budget for repairs.”
