Roads Minister considering Department's response into A6 Public Inquiry report
Roads Minister Danny Kennedy has confirmed that he is considering his Department’s response to the report on the Public Inquiry into the A6 Derry to Dungiven dualling scheme.
The Minister was speaking ahead of a meeting tonight between Limavady Borough Council and the Department for Regional Development.
In 2012, a Public Inquiry into the proposed 30km route carriageway, which would include a bypass of Dungiven, was held.
East Derry Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Ó hOisín, who has been lobbying for a bypass of Dungiven for many years, has welcomed the news.
Meanwhile, those in attendance at the meeting heard that £9.35million has been invested in road schemes in Limavady council area over the last year.
Included in the completed schemes is the resurfacing of the A2 Clooney Road, A6 Glenshane Road, A2 Seacoast Road, B66 Ringsend Road, B192 Drumrane Road and B74 Feeny Road.
A school safety zone was also implemented outside St Matthew’s Primary School in Drumsurn while Dungiven’s Main Street benefited from a new style PUFFIN crossing.
A scheme to replace stone parapet walls along the Legavallon Road outside Dungiven is also ongoing.
Speaking about the projects, the Minister said: “In the Limavady Council area, despite ever increasing demands on budgets, DRD invested over £9.35million in delivering a comprehensive range of road schemes and maintenance work.
“DRD is using its available resources highly effectively and continues to deliver quality public services in the Limavady council area and across Northern Ireland.”
