Room ransacked and money stolen in Derry burglary

Police in Derry are appealing for information about a burglary which occurred yesterday in the Lisnagelvin area of the city.
Residents returned to their home at Tamworth Court at about 9.30pm to find it had been entered in their absence.
The front bedroom had been ransacked and a sum of money was taken. The remainder of the property had also been disturbed, with doors left open, and cupboards ransacked.
On entering the kitchen, a bar stool was observed to be placed up against the door handle. Constable McGuinness, the investigating officer, said: “The door was opened by the owners and damage was observed to the white PVC, which appeared to be forced.
“It is believed entry was gained via the rear door, and exit via the front.”
Const McGuinness appealed to anyone who was in the area between 6.30pm and 9.30pm and saw suspicious activity to contact police at Strand Road on the 101 non-emergency number, quoting reference 1126 20/10/15.
He said information could also be given to the Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
