'Sheer luck' no one killed at Grangemore/Ardgrange - Kelly
Residents in the Grangemore and Ardgrange areas of Derry have expressed fears that someone will be killed or seriously injured due to a lack of road safety measures.
Sinn Féin Councillor Colly Kelly, who has met with a number of residents, has written to DRD Roads Service to take up a number of complaints concerning speed, volume of traffic and lack of road markings.
Cllr Kelly said: “These are two very large developments with several hundred homes, so it always very busy with traffic any time of the day or night.
“I would urge motorists to slow down whilst travelling through the area and to adhere to the speed limits in place.”
Cllr Kelly said the Grangemore and Ardgrange areas had “grown considerably” in recent years and residents with young families believed speeding posed “an obvious risk” to children and other pedestrians
He added: “Due to no road markings in some places motorists are actually driving on the wrong side of the road and the residents I spoke to this week told me it is only sheer luck there hasn’t been a serious accident particularly on the bend on the way out of the development.”
