There was widespread shock in Derry this evening following the death of one of the city’s best known runners.

Ryan Snodgrass was a well-known member of the Foyle Valley Athletics Club.

He was a familiar figure on the local running scene.

Only a few months ago, Ryan (pictured above) finished 13th in the Walled City Marathon.

His death was announced this evening in statement from the Foyle Valley club.

The statement, which was posted on the club’s Facebook page, said: “It is with our deepest sadness we regret to inform you all of the passing of Ryan Snodgrass.

“Ryan has been a long standing member of Foyle Valley AC and will be badly missed by all. RIP Ryan.”

No other details about Ryan’s death have been revealed.

It is the second tragedy to hit the Foyle Valley club in recent months, following the death earlier this year of the club’s popular chairman, Colm ‘Packy’ Deehan.
