A man will be sentenced in January after admitting a charge of assault that occurred in Altnagelvin Hospital.

Richard McCrossan (33) of Glenview Manor in Strabane appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court where he admitted a charge of assault that occurred on August 19.

The court heard that police were called to the hospital after an incident.

McCrossan was at the hospital for treatment and was being brought back from the X-ray department when he started waving his arms about.

As a result the injured party was pushed against a wall hurting her elbow and putting her in fear of further assault.

At interview McCrossan said he was 'heavily intoxicated' at the time and had no recollection of the incident.

He did say that it was 'out of character' for him to behave in that sort of behaviour.

District Judge Francis Rafferty adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and sentence will be passed on January 26.
