The Big Lunch comes to Derry!

Children from throughout Derry have taken part in The Big Lunch – an Eden Project scheme designed to bring neighbours together and build community spirit. Several Big Lunches have taken place in the Derry area – with more to come over the summer – including one organised by Kinship Care. Their Big Lunch took place on the Playtrail on Racecourse Road and had a Teddy Bears’ Picnic theme, and had bouncy castles and other games like giant Jenga for the children. Organiser Leona McMenamin, from Kinship Care, said: “It was absolutely brilliant, the feedback was great, and when we were wrapping up no-one wanted to leave – everyone thought it was great. “We will definitely do something similar again next year. Last year was our first go at a Big Lunch, and this year we wanted to expand it.” The Big Lunch is led by the Eden Project, funded by The Big Lottery Fund and supported by Halifax and Asda. This is the seventh year of the project, and 2015 saw a greater uptake than ever before in Northern Ireland – showing the event has grown in popularity as its ability to bring people together is appreciated by more and more people.
