Traffic was halted for several minutes this morning in order to allow a feeder Orange parade to march across the main Letterkenny - Derry road in Manorcunningham.

Members of the Manorcunningham Loyal Orange Lodge No. 1117 began their feeder parade from  outside the Orange Hall in Manorcunningham and, as they have done for many years, marched down the village's Main Street before turning around and heading back through the village, and towards the main road.

Only a handful of spectators were present.

Garda stopped traffic in both directions to allow the small feeder parade led by the Manorcunningham Pipe Band to cross the busy road and make its way up to the picnic area, off the main road, where they boarded a bus to head for the Twelfth of July celebrations in Coleraine.

Many unsuspecting motorists were clearly surprised to see the spectacle of an Orange parade on a main road in Donegal.

After halting traffic for no more than a few minutes, gardai waved motorists on through.

It was a fine example of a peaceful parade celebrating culture and tradition.

Several other feeder parades were held in other parts of Donegal.
