Tributes have been paid to popular Derry man - Mark Lusby.

Mr Lusby was well-known across the city for his involvement in the community sector.

He was also the historical researcher and coordinator for the Friends of Derry Walls group.

The Friends of Derry Walls is a voluntary organisation with the mission of becoming the voice of the Walls, raising ambitions for their care and presentation, driving public engagement with the Walls and ensuring that the Walls are fully exploited as a resource for educational, cultural and economic development.

Paying tribute to Mr Lusby, the group took to social media: "It is with sadness to report today that our friend, colleague and founder of The Friends of the Derry Walls, Mark Lusby, has just passed away this morning.

"It was only Saturday week ago that he was organising a tour around the Walls; Mark was in full throttle giving us all a unique and detailed history lesson on part of our Walls that he loved and treasured, and wanted to share with others.

"He was the authority on the Walls; every walk on the Walls with him was a history lesson. He had a zest for life and an enthusiasm in his work. He has left a great legacy for generations to come.

"Condolences to Deirdre and family. RIP Mark."
