Warning over Christmas burglaries in Derry

Derry residents are being urged to exercise caution and vigilance in the run-up to Christmas.

The warning comes from the chairperson of the city’s and Community Safety Partnerships (PCSP), Sinn Fein Cllr Eric McGinley.

He said: “As we approach Christmas I would take this opportunity to remind people that criminals use this time of year to prey on unsuspecting victims.

“Homes and cars are particular targets for burglars and I would urge residents to ensure that all valuables are properly stored and that doors and windows are kept securely locked.”

Cllr McGinley concluded: “Christmas should always be a happy time of the year and we should all take the necessary precautions to ensure that no-one falls victim to the actions of criminal elements.”
