Woman charged with stealing her electronic tag remanded

Katie Bowers (36) of Heron Way in Derry appeared charged with stealing the tag on July 14 and two breaches of bail
A woman who was breached her bail on six occasions has been remanded in custody at Derry Magistrate's Court today charged with stealing her electronic tag.
Katie Bowers (36) of Heron Way in Derry appeared charged with stealing the tag on July 14 and two breaches of bail.
A police officer connected the accused to the charge and opposed bail. He told the court that this was the defendant's sixth breach with three of them occurring last week.
Despite there being a no alcohol condition as part of her bail the police officer said Bowers was found drinking out of a can in the city centre with two other cans in her possession.
The court heard that Bowers was located in Coleraine and her tag has been removed.
The police officer said that police had 'zero confidence' Bowers would abide by conditions.
Defence counsel Stephen Chapman said that 'issues' had come to fore in recent weeks.
He said that the defendant was having a pre-sentence report prepared for August 9 and asked for bail to ensure that date could be met.
Deputy District Judge Liam McStay said that the court had given Bowers 'considerable leeway' but her bail history was poor.
He said that there was a risk of re-offending and remanded her in custody to appear again on August 9.
