A woman has appeared in Derry Magistrates Court charged with disorderly conduct in Altnagelvin Hospital's A&E department, as well as two counts of assault on police officers and one count of assaulting a paramedic.

Shannon Coyle, 24, of John Street, was arrested on September 3 after police were called to Altnagelvin Hospital after an incident involving Coyle and an aggressive male.

The male was detained and then Coyle became involved with police.

Coyle became disorderly shouting and roaring and then was said to have proceeded to kick the officers and a paramedic as she was escorted out in handcuffs.

A police officer opposed bail due to the location of the alleged offences and said there was a high risk of re-offending.

Defence solicitor Seamus Quigley said that he could not disagree with the sentiments as regards the hospital.

He said his client accepted there was some kind of substance abuse involved but not alcohol and said Coyle has mental health issues.

When giving bail, District Judge Oonagh Mullan ruled that Coyle was not to possess or consume any illegal substances and was to consult with her doctor within the next three days.

She will appear in court again on September 18.
