A woman has appeared at Derry Magistrates Court charged driving while drunk.

Tara Lynn (44) of Balliniska Heights in Derry was charged with, on July 7 last year, driving a car while under the influence of alcohol.

Police were initially called to the scene of a car that had reportedly crashed into a building and a check showed that the vehicle belonged to Lynn.

Results from a breath test showed a reading of 141 per 100ml of blood.

Defence solicitor Derwin Harvey told the court that Lynn had not, in fact, crashed into a building, but into a small pillar adding that the car already had pre-existing damage.

He also told how Lynn had lung difficulties and was waiting on open heart surgery, while also mentioning that the alcohol had been consumed much earlier in the day.

Lynn pleaded guilty and received a 12 month disqualification.
