A woman who admitted being involved with possessing pregablin that resulted in the death of a young man has begun a sentence of two months after her appeal was withdrawn.

Geraldine McNamee (37) of John Street in Derry had previously been granted anonymity and was sentenced to two months in prison for possessing Pregablin with intent to supply on August 12 last year and being concerned in the supply of the drug on the same date.

During her appearance at Derry Magistrate's Court the court heard that a young man died of a cardiac arrest after taking pregablin and police inquiries led them to the defendant.

A search of her property was undertaken and six sheets of Pregablin were found.

The woman admitted that she supplied pregablin to other people.

She claimed that she had people drinking in her flat and that they knew where she kept her pregablin.

Passing sentence in the Magistrate's Court Judge Barney McElholm said that

'one can't escape the fact a young man lost his life as a result of this defendant's activities.'

After her appeal was withdrawn the sentence of two months in prison was confirmed.
