Work set to begin on new Magilligan community centre

Magilligan in Co Derry is set to have a new community centre within a year following funding approval approved by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.
It is hoped construction on the new fit-for-purpose building will commence in the coming weeks.
The news has been welcomed by the local community and elected representatives.
Newly elected SDLP Assembly member for East Derry, Gerry Mullan said the news was ‘exciting’.
“This project has been long overdue but, nevertheless, I am absolutely delighted as a native of the area who has been a member of the Magilligan Community Association for many years to know that at long last the local community are about to have a new, well designed community building that will be fit-for purpose and serve the needs of everyone in the area for years to come,” he said.
Sinn Féin’s Brenda Chivers also welcomed the progress on the new community centre.
"The decision by the committee to allow the case for the Magilligan Community Centre development to proceed is welcome.
"A detailed design and procurement process leading to a tender report which will then be brought back to the committee to sign off on.
"My party colleagues and I consistently met with and lobbied for the Community Association from day one and will continue to do so until the facilities they deserve are secured.
"Sinn Féin will continue to work hard and push for investment in rural communities such as Magilligan."
