Works to get underway to repair eroded bank on River Roe in Limavady

Last month, fears were expressed that a bridge in Limavady could ‘collapse’ if action isn’t taken over the deteriorating flood bank
Works to repair an eroded bank on the River Roe in Limavady are to get underway this summer, roads minister Liz Kimmins has said.
The Minister said her department’s officials had inspected the bank and the nearby Roe New Bridge on the Limavady Bypass but did not find any issues with the span across the river.
Last month, the County Derry Post reported on concerns raised by a local angler who expressed fears a nearby bridge could 'collapse' if action wasn't taken over the deteriorating flood bank.
He said 'sustained rainfall and the moderate rise in the river level' had led to the bank at the River Roe to erode in a short period of time.
The Minister was asked about the bridge and the eroded river bank by DUP MLA Alan Robinson.
"I am aware of recent media reports relating to riverbank erosion upstream of Roe New Bridge on the Limavady Bypass. My officials undertook an inspection of the bridge and riverbanks on April 14, which did not identify any issues affecting the structure.
“The area of bank erosion is remote from the bridge, with works to repair the affected embankment expected to commence this summer.
“In the interim, my officials will continue to monitor the extent of riverbank erosion and implement measures to protect the structure should it be necessary,” she stated.
