Aoife O'Donnell has been named the third Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada Annual Coogan Gallagher Scholarship Winner.
The scholarship was established by past student and Arranmore native, Caroleann Gallagher, who currently works as a lawyer in Chicago.
"Aoife, you represent exactly what this scholarship stands for - a leader, who leads with dedication, heart and a strong sense of belonging and commitment to her community,” Caroleanne told the award winner.
“Her dedication shines through in everything she takes on - whether it’s her schoolwork, her music, her writing, her photography, her love of the Irish Language or her volunteer efforts - she always gives her best without ever seeking the spotlight.
“You are a remarkable, inspiring young woman and I have no doubt that your future is very bright! This is only the beginning!”
“Thank you to everyone at Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada, Arranmore for always including my lovely mum and dad in this special ceremony,” Aoife said. “It means the world to me.”
Aoife is a Leaving Certificate student at Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada and is the daughter of James Gerald and Noreen O'Donnell.
Caroleann was one of the first pupils to attend Gairmscoil Mhic Diarmada in 1990. The award was created out of her gratitude for all that the school brought to the island and to help students with financing further education. Now in its third year, the scholarship will be available annually and will award the winner €3,000 to assist them on their career path.
Aoife follows in the footsteps of JJ O’Donnell and Finn Trocmé, the previous two winners of the award.
