Arranmore Island has received two brand new Celtic Yawl (ICRF One-Design) boats.
Cumann na mBád received a BIM FLAG grant allocation to purchase the two 7.45m coastal racing rowing boats.
“This funding will help us bring back the proud tradition of coastal rowing here on Arranmore, a proud tradition once celebrated with the Donegal Skiffs,” CFFAM Árainn Mhór said on a social media post. “Now, with these new boats, which are being newly built and we hope to take delivery of in the new year, we can look forward to regenerating the sport and hopefully sparking friendly competition in this beautiful standard design once again.
“A huge thank you to BIM FLAG for their support in making this happen. Your investment helps keep our island’s maritime heritage alive and thriving.”
The ‘Celtic Yawl’, also known as the ‘ICRF One-Design Boat’, was introduced by the Irish Coastal Rowing Federation in 2002. The ‘All-Ireland Coastal Rowing Championships’, which has been organised and run by the ‘Irish Coastal Rowing Federation’ since 1992, is the National Championships for the Celtic Yawl.
