Boglands, a new body of work by Letterkenny artist Peadar McDaid will launch this Saturday at An Gailearaí in Gweedore.
Peadar created these new artworks with help from an Artist Bursary award.

“Caoráin, to give it its Irish title, is a series of 14 large-scale paintings capturing the environment and nature of these parts of our landscapes. Initially, a series of studies and preliminary drawings were completed on these boglands before the large-scale paintings were created at my studio in Milford. Like the boglands, I used the method of building up multi-layers. These layers of paints, inks, charcoal, graphite, texture and wax as well as turf dust, dried plants and seeds from the natural environment make these artworks.”
The international Donegal-based artist Daniel Neilis will officially open Peadar’s exhibition and there will also be a special recital by Gortahork-based performer Jack Ó Maoláine who will do a rendition of The Bog by Cathal Ó Searcaigh. Drinks will be served and all are welcome to attend this free event at An Gailearaí at 8pm on Saturday, January 18.
Boglands will run at An Gailearaí until February 28. Opening hours are Monday-Friday 11am - 5pm, apart from Wednesday when they are open at the later time of 1-8pm.
