Carndonagh woman fined €100 for not wearing her seatbelt

36-year-old pleads guilty to motoring misdemeanour at Carndonagh District Court
A Carndonagh woman has been fined €100 for failing to wear her seatbelt whilst driving last year.
Amanda Brattin, of Malin Road, Carndonagh, pleaded guilty to the motoring misdemeanour when she appeared before Carndonagh District Court.
The 36-year-old defendant represented herself during the brief hearing.
Judge Ciaran Liddy asked her: “There’s an allegation here that you failed to wear a seatbelt. Do you wish to plead guilty or not guilty?”
“Guilty,” Ms Brattin replied.
Garda Thomas Duggan was sworn-in to give evidence. He told the court how he was on mobile patrol at the Diamond, Carndonagh on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.
At approximately 3.10pm that afternoon, he observed how the driver of a 2010-registered vehicle, a Peugeot 308, wasn’t wearing her seatbelt.
He stopped the vehicle, and the driver identified herself as Amanda Brattin, of the above address.
A fixed penalty notice was subsequently issued in the post, but it was not paid, and the matter progressed to court as a result.
Judge Liddy was told that Ms Brattin has no previous convictions.
“Anything you’d like to add?” the judge asked the Carn woman, at the conclusion of the evidence.
“No,” she replied.
Judge Liddy imposed a €100 fine, allowing Ms Brattin three months to pay the sum.
