Donegal County Council grants permission for new Dungloe apartments

Donegal County Council restricts portion of new apartments for those ‘with reasonable fluency in the Irish language’
Planning permission has been granted by Donegal County Council for the construction of three apartments in Dungloe.
The applicant, Kenneth Campbell, who is the Director of P&I Campbell Auctioneers Ltd and the registered owner of the property for which the application was made, successfully submitted the application to Donegal County Council.
Proposed is the change of use from an existing storage facility over a retail shop to three single-bed apartments, and the development of car parking facilities, connection to existing public sewers serving the existing building and all associated site development works.
The property has been vacant in excess of two years.
Donegal County Council granted planning permission with six conditions, including a condition imposed that two of the apartments be restricted to “occupation by persons who have demonstrated a reasonable fluency in the Irish language” for a period of 15 years, “in order to protect the language and cultural heritage of this Gaeltacht area.”
It was also imposed that applicant or beneficiary of the permission should contribute a payment of €6,000 in respect of public infrastructure and facilities benefiting development in the area of the Planning Authority that is already provided or is intended to be provided by the Authority.
