Tipperary North TD Ryan O’Meara has said a €1,238,064 investment in climate action project in Thurles will support local communities and help deliver a more sustainable future for the region.
The Thurles Renewable Thermal Energy Infrastructure Project will fund renewable thermal energy and energy efficiency upgrades for Thurles Leisure Centre, The Source Arts Centre, and Thurles Library.
This includes the installation of biomass and heat pump technologies, PV generation (for on-site use only), upgraded district heating infrastructure, Building Management System (BMS) upgrades and associated electrical and mechanical improvements.
It is one of 33 climate action projects set to receive funding in the Midlands under the Government’s EU Just-Transition Fund.
Deputy O’Meara said: “The Thurles Renewable Thermal Energy Infrastructure Project. It will deliver real benefits for people across north County Tipperary.
"It is a significant investment which will make public buildings more energy efficient. In turn it will make our communities better places to live, work and visit.
"Supporting communities through the transition to a low-carbon economy is hugely important, and this investment will help ensure that local areas can benefit from new opportunities while protecting and improving their environment.
"I look forward to seeing this project progresses."
